Soulfood for Comfort

Tis the Season

My daughter and I are excited about making this recipe for gift giving….sshhhh.

CHOCOLATE COVERED PRETZELS

Pretzels
Semi-sweet morsels

Heat semi-sweet chocolate chips in a double boiler or heavy saucepan over low heat, stirring constantly, until smooth.

To microwave, place chocolate in a microwave proof dish and melt 1/2-1 cup chips on medium (50%) 3-4 1/2 minutes. Stir until smooth. Dip pretzels with a fork and remove to wax paper. Refrigerate uncovered until chocolate is firm, about 30 minutes. Store, loosely covered in a cool, dry place or freeze in an airtight container.

TIPS:

  • Put in a plastic seasonal bag, with ribbon or combine with other treats for a good holiday gift.
  • add coconut or any other condiment.
  • For a minty flavor, add a little bit of mint extract or mint morsels.

Directions

PREHEAT oven to 325° F. Line small baking sheet with foil or parchment paper.

POUR morsels onto prepared baking sheet. Arrange morsels so they are touching each other in a single layer (roughly an 11 x 9-inch rectangle).

BAKE for 1 to 3 minutes or until morsels are shiny. Remove from oven to wire rack. With tip of butter knife or wooden pick, immediately swirl morsels to create a swirled pattern.

SPRINKLE with nuts. Hold baking sheet 3 inches above counter and drop to settle nuts into melted morsels. Refrigerate for 1 hour or until firm. Break into pieces. Store in airtight container in refrigerator.

VARIATION: Substitute broken pretzel pieces or another nut of choice for the almonds.
